Mohawk Carpet Review

Carpets by Mohawk

When you say carpet, one of the most well known brands is Mohawk. Mohawk is a very respected and is one of the world leaders in the carpet industry mainly due to its high quality products and tenure in the carpet making world. It began way back in 1878.

Mohawk actually acquired several companies in the “buy out” era in the carpet industry. Its top most brand may be the Karastan Carpet line. This is like the best brand that Mohawk has churned out, it is the fillet mignon of the carpet brands. Aside from Karastan, there is Lee’s Carpet, another known manufacturer of high end carpets. Mohawk also partnered with Alexander Smith, it purchased Horizon Carpet in 1992, it acquired Aladdin Carpets in 1994, Galaxy Carpet Mills in 1995, Diamond Carpet Mills in 1997, Bigelow Carpets, World Carpets, WundaWeve Carpet Mills, Durkin Carpets, American Rug Craftsmen, Harbringer, Image Carpet Mills, Helios and Custom Weave.

Although Mohawk carpets are relatively more affordable now, a slight concern for high end carpet brands is that they have a limited are of distribution. Thus, a small amount of retailers actually have Mohawk brand carpets. This makes it somewhat difficult to locate for patterns of brands that you like. Also, since there are lesser retailers, prices are a tad bit higher as retailers rarely think about being competitive in terms of prices as they have a small number of competitors.

  • my smart strand lasted just at one year. it is now 3 years old, and its almost matted flat and is untwisted. warranty was for 25 years!! multiple claims have been turned down. lowes isn't doing anything either except offering different material at their cost. i have spent over $5000 on this junk. don't ever buy Mohawk products..

  • Three months after purchasing Mohawk Smartstrand from Lowes, my husband and I noticed that it got fuzz marks on the top after vacuuming. The warrantee says not to use a beater bar on frieze', and I don't even have a beater bar!
Good news is, we went back to Lowes and told them our story and within a couple of weeks they called and said they would replace our carpet. I ordered the new carpet yesterday (not Mohawk) and paid nothing!
I am very happy and thankful to LOWES, especially after reading what some of you had to go through. I will use Lowes again.

  • Mike,

I believe you need to re-read the e-mails. Several of them say Smartstrand (we all know that's not cheap) and several say "high end" or "expensive". Also, I don't care what level of expense you go to your carpet should last more then a year or two. No matter where you go on the web the reviews for Mohawk are awful. And who gets to define "legitimate"? The hack that works for the company? And if the stain resistance claims by Mohawk were legit, skin oils wouldn't cause a problem.

You state that you are an independent and a middleman. Hmmm........yet you ask if everyone else works for a rival carpet company. Me thinks thou does protest too much.

    Glad I have all hardwood.

  • I'm going to continue to alert people how poor, dysfunctional and unreasonable MOHAWK CARPET and ROMAN FURNITURE truly is... After all this time ( 3 years) my carpets have continued to degrade and you and ROMAN ignore my complaints.I am not going away and I will continue to spread the word about MOHAWK and ROMAN and how they DO NOT stand behind their product !!!!!!!!! DO NOT BUY FROM THESE 2 COMPANIES . If you have a problem they like to blame the customer for it. That is the easy way around your poor install. What a company? Oh, your lawyers do not scare me... because I have my lawyers also .....JUST the beginning. I'LL BE BACK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Coleen Price Caramandi

  • Hi Everyone,

I am a flooring retailer. I have sold lots of different brands over the years, including Mohawk, Coronet (by Beaulieu), Fabrica (bt Dixie Home), Kraus, and Shaw. They all follow the same rules when determining if a claim is a manufacturing defect, an installation mistake, or just abuse by a consumer.

Not a single person above mentioned the quality of the carpet they purchased. Most didn't say where the problems were actually happening, or how the cleaning was done. Does everyone work for a rival carpet company?

If you rub a stain, the carpet will go fuzzy, thats why you should have been directed to blot any stains.
No company offers wear warranties on stair and hallways (some underlays will add this warranty, but it is rare).

The lady saying she walks on her carpet with bare feet, gross. Wear socks or slippers, everyone has natural oils on our skin, the carpet is not a great place to leave it behind.

Oh, and in my 12 years of being the middleman between suppliers and customers, I have never seen a large company turn down a legitimate warranty claim.

So, follow the care and maintnance book and don't abuse your carpet and it will last as long as it is designed to.
